National Public Lands Day
September 2018

Twenty seven people participated in the 2018 celebration of our National Public Lands Day. Five members of the Inyo National Forest, including the acting South District Ranger, Kathy Mick, helped out along with four staff members of the Friends of the Inyo. The Eastern Sierra 4x4 Club, Adventure Trails and friends contributed another fifteen workers and a lot of work was accomplished.

Our focus this year was largely on water shed. Steps were taken to prevent damage to the roads due to erosion by improving water bars and redirecting runoff. A couple water crossing were improved to keep water in their proper channels and a culvert cleaned to prevent backup. We also installed signage to keep OHVs on the designated routes and made repairs to the kiosk and map box at Sand Canyon.

The day started with coffee, cookies and donuts supplied be the 4x4 Club and ended with a raffle. The Friends of the Inyo supplied many of the raffle items along with the necessary tools and gloves for the work projects. We also want to thank Manor True Value Hardware for the $25 gift card.

At the end of the day some of our Public Lands are now in better condition and better prepared for the runoff next spring. To top off the day many of the participants traveled up to the top of the Sand Canyon road to enjoy lunch and the beautiful fall colors.
