Earth Day
April 2019

Earth Day - 4/20/19

This year the Eastern Sierra 4x4 Club celebrated Earth Day in three ways:

Pat Woods, Raul Hidalgo and Maureen McVicker joined the local celebration at the Bishop City Park. They set up a booth to demonstrate the many activities our Club is involved in and promoted responsible OHV use. It is paramount that we educate the public about safe four wheeling, protecting our natural resources, the beauty in the back country and the importance of maintaining access for future generations.

The second group of Club members went on a four wheeling adventure to learn about the canal systems that snake along our Owens Valley floor. These elaborate canals that were originally utilized for ranching and farming. Today some of the canals are still used but largely as a means to handle the overflow from the Owens River due to high runoff. Remnants of the early homesteads can be found as shown below.

Following the 4x4 adventure the group helped to clean up the face of mother earth on our highway section of 395. Once again a considerable amount of trash was collected. Unfortunately our society contains a careless element that litter our roads.
